Your domain name is what customers use to access your products and
services on-line, and will serve as the core of your Internet identity.
The Domain Name System (DNS) translates your domain name into the numerical
addresses (Internet Protocol numbers) used by the Internet.
Many organizations find it useful to have a domain name or e-mail address
that is the same or similar to their company name or product(s).
If your organization´s name is Norfolk City Advertisment Agency,
Inc., you could register the domain name www.norfolkcity.com and your
e-mail address could be username@norfolkcity.com. Your customers would
also be able to access your organization´s Web site by visiting
"www.norfolkcity.com" with their Web browser.
A domain name will give you a unique identity on the Internet. In some
ways, a domain name is similar to a customized license plate. Many organizations
find it useful to have an e-mail or Web address that is similar to their
company name or to their company product(s).
Chances are it's happened to you at least once within the last year
or so. You're browsing the Internet when you inadvertently enter the
wrong address, maybe you entered .com instead of .org, and find yourself
at the wrong site. And often you'll find that the site that you've accidentally
reached is an adult site. While this is no major deal (although maybe
a little embarrassing :o), it can be a major deal to a client that wants
to make sure that their customers easily find their site without blushing.
To keep this from happening, you should always consider possible misspellings
and variations of the domain when registering it.
For example, if the registered domain is www.tricity.com, you should
also consider registering www.tricity.org, www.trycity.com, www.trycity.org,
www.tri-city.com, www.tri-city.org, www.tricities.com and www.tricities.org.
If you don't, one of the client's competitors might. It's no coincidence
that GlobalStrata Solutions, Inc. (at www.globalstrata.com) offers this
as an option when registering a site. Once you've registered the extra
top-level domains (or extensions, as they're commonly referred to),
we can then forward each of the domains to the actual site. That's much
better than using redirects.
Domain Name Selection is very important for your business and also to
protect your family name. You may chose one or more domain names for
your web site. We recommend at least three domain names for your web
site which should include keywords of your products and services for
internet search engines. This will increase your chance and visibility
at search engines. We can forward your additional domain names to your
main web site without any additional fee.
